This winter recruitment period proves to be a period of intense rumour and possible big-money deals. Numerous notable footballers are being connected to transfers out of their present teams. We examine a selection of the top figures that are poised to be changing clubs this month.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, this has left the forward in contention, it appears an important transfer is imminent. This 25-year-old possesses a contract featuring a £65 million buy-out clause applicable for a two-week period at the start of the month. Latest reports suggest Manchester City have emerged as his services. Former suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea are said to have moved on to other options, potentially opening the door for clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a last-minute bid.

This English centre-back has continued to impress for Palace this season a summer transfer to Liverpool falling through. As his contract due to expire in the close season, this represents the club's final opportunity to secure a fee for their skipper. Numerous elite clubs, such as Manchester City and several European giants including Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, are believed to hold an interest. B. Johnson

The Wales winger has had first-team minutes hard to come by at Tottenham this term. Despite finishing as the side's leading goalscorer the previous campaign, he has begun just a small number of league games. Reports suggest the North London outfit would be willing to consider a sale for the correct valuation, believed to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries are currently at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also showing an interest.

R. Neves

The Portugal playmaker might be set for a return to the Premier League after a spell in Saudi Arabia. Now only 28, while his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a potential bargain. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United are connected to the former Wolves man. Additionally, there have been suggestions from Spanish media that he is willing to take a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

M. ter Stegen

The veteran Germany goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barça following the coach Hansi Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had an operation, a January departure seems highly likely. Juventus are eager to tie down the youngster to a new long-term contract but face a race to retain one of the continent's brightest prospects.

K. Smit

This much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After starring at the U19 Euros, he has become a regular in the AZ first team. This 19-year-old is widely tipped to make a major transfer in January. Newcastle United reportedly are leading the chase, but are facing strong competition from Real Madrid for a signing priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
