“That was unfortunate. That was essentially an exchange with our fans seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Cowboys.”
Jones additionally emphasized that the signal was entirely unintentional, occurring amid the excitement following the team’s last score. “I just showed the wrong digit,” he noted. “The action was inadvertently performed. I’m not kidding. Should you call it accidental, you can. However, it got corrected rapidly.”
Historical Precedent for Proprietor Penalties
This incident isn’t the first time an NFL owner has been fined for misconduct. Recent examples involve:
